Curriculum Content

LearnPad is all about delivering classroom solutions, which is why we have created 103 new Lesson Profiles to help you deliver the National Curriculum. To make it easy for teachers to access these Profiles, we've produced a handy curriculum resource guide which contains all of our LearnPad Lesson Profiles across all subjects for KS1 and KS2 and a fantastic A1 poster with a selection of our favourites. All you need to do is scan the QrKey in the booklet or on the poster to instantly add the Lesson Profile to your device.

The new curriculum initiated considerable reorganisation in the subject and so we’ve produced 9 Lesson Profiles; one for each year of Primary and added three more which include collections of Texts and eBooks for KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS3. Each of the Year based Lesson Profiles cover the specific Programme of Study for that cohort, for instance the Yr 3 Lesson profile includes Writing Fiction, Writing non-Fiction and Poetry, Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation and Spoken Language Tools.

We’ve also added Creative Categories to the Lesson Profiles with apps and stimulus material to encourage more extended project type work.

As with English the amount of specific direction in the new Programmes of Study is now considerable and to ensure we cover them comprehensively we have built 16 new Lesson Profiles covering Number, Measurement, Geometry and Statistics at both KS1 and Lower KS2 and Number, Proportion and Ratio, Measurement, Statistics and Algebra and Geometry for Upper KS2.

One of the stated aims of the new National Curriculum is that all pupils should be able to solve problems by applying their mathematical knowledge in a variety of ways. To ensure that LearnPads can help with this area of applied study we’ve also added 3 Problem Solving Lesson Profiles and one for Maths Tools and Mental Maths.

The nature of the new Science curriculum is very specific and the Programmes of Study tend to build on skills and knowledge acquired in the previous year. Such is the breadth of topics and content within the subject we have created 27 new Lesson Profiles for the 6 year groups beginning with Yr1 Plants though Yr3 Rocks all the way through to Yr6 Electricity.

As with some of the other subjects we have added some Creative Exercises to these 27 Science Lesson Profiles. These have been designed to use the flexibility of the LearnPads to enable pupils to go a little bit further in their studies by requiring them to be more active learners.

It’s rare for a curriculum change to bring about such a radical inclusion and although there’s been some time to prepare for it, the new requirement to deliver computer science and coding has been a difficult development for many schools. The LearnPad’s inherent flexibility is a powerful tool here though and its connectivity and processing capability mean that it’s a natural tool with which to engage learners.

In order to help we’ve created 5 new Lesson Profiles which are packed with new apps and resources to help deliver Programming, Multimedia, Visual Media, Digital Literacy and Music and Sound. Although Premium products LightBot and LightBot Junior are both worthy of consideration should you wish to add to your programming profiles.

LearnPads could have been designed for geographical studies. The camera, video camera, photo-annotation and hand-in/hand-out facilities can be used within the school grounds or as key information recording tools during local fieldwork. No more clipboards, broken pencils and lost notebooks…

There’s certainly a lot of flexibility in the new Geography Programme of Study but then there is an awful lot of content which needs to be covered over the 6 years. From Biomes and Vegetation Belts to Local Studies and Mountains we’ve covered the new curriculum demands for Geography with Lesson Profile content for both practical activities and theoretical explanations.

A unique approach seems to have been adopted by the DfE with a controversial chronological style. The amount of content is challenging but we’ve created 17 Lesson Profiles covering the range of suggestions in the Programme of Study, from the Stone Age to Vikings to Monarchs to Ancient Egypt to allow schools and teachers to cover whichever topics they choose to cover.

Many of the resources in the History lesson profiles are web links and video clips to provide information and context to the topic and sub-topic being studied.

Foreign Languages

Two collections of resources covering both Modern and Ancient Languages including audio, video and text-based content. The Ancient Language Lesson Profile has an entire basic Latin course kindly provided by the National Archives which explores the kind of language commonly used in mediaeval Britain.

The Modern Languages Lesson Profile provides simple resources for French, Spanish and German including some basic vocabulary exercises and video from some well-known faces.

A range of tools, resources and apps to use on the LearnPad to support Physical Education, both in theory and practice. The KS1 Category concentrates on Dancing and Movement and includes a Creative exercise on teamwork and its importance.

The KS2 Category includes Dance and Movement Categories as KS1 but adds a Games Category to investigate the concept of the team and the rules and tactics of games such as football, basketball, netball and cricket.

Covering all of the major world religions as well as thematic and personal aspects the Religious Education Lesson Profiles contain a wide variety of resources with particular focus on video experience and holy days and festivals.

KS1 is catered for by a Lesson Profile which concentrates on exploring what faith is and introducing the major faiths. The KS2 collections are organised by specific religion with separate Lesson Profiles for Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and Sikhism.

The LearnPad is ideally suited to creative minds and activities and the new 2014 Curriculum Art Lesson Profiles include a wide range of resources, websites and useful apps. Some of the resources specifically look at techniques and tools to encourage and improve artistic skills.

Other resources introduce the work of famous artists and their unique styles, giving learners the opportunity to explore and experiment.

Two new Lesson Profiles which include new ideas, activities and resources for using the LearnPads to support Design and Technology.

Both Lesson Profiles contain a Creative Category with stimulus resources; the KS1 selection includes resources on Designing and Making together with a distinct Category on Nutrition whilst the KS2 Lesson Profile also adds a selection of materials on Technical Knowledge.

LearnPad’s flexibility means that it can be used to create, appreciate and record music. These new Lesson Profiles created for the 2014 Curriculum contain apps, activities and resources which encourage and enable students to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music.
