EducationInvestor Awards Finalists

LearnPad, has been announced as a finalist in the EducationInvestor Awards 2014, for the ‘Suppliers – Use of Educational Technology’ category.

The annual EducationInvestor Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievement and innovation found within the business of learning. Now used by more than 8,000 teachers across the UK and America, LearnPad impressed the panel of judges looking for organisations and individuals that have made an outstanding contribution to the sector during the academic year 2013-14.

LearnPad offers a classroom tablet solution that enhances, supports and simplifies teaching and learning. Implementing LearnPad gives teachers an intuitive way to supervise and control student tablets, lessons and activities, easily enabling differentiated learning and access to digital content. LearnPad supports the shift in teaching from whole class to personalised learning, enabling the delivery of new and existing materials at the right pace and level for each child’s needs.

Following the highly competitive shortlist process, which saw 20 per cent more entries for 2014, the finalists will now be considered by an independent judging panel, who will select a winner. The winners will be announced at a black-tie dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, on Thursday 13 November.

Nik Tuson, managing director, LearnPad said: “Being shortlisted in the EducationInvestor Awards for 2014 is a fantastic achievement for all the team at LearnPad. We recognise that ‘shoe-horning’ a tablet solution into schools doesn’t work: providing educators with a resource that from the very beginning has been designed with their requirements in mind means that they can take advantage of the teaching and learning benefits that tablets offer, but also be sure that they are making the wisest investments to support future development. As a finalist, we are proud that our innovation in the field of learning technology has been recognised. We look forward to the award ceremony and hopefully, collecting the winning trophy!”

Octavo wins ISTE 2014 Best of Show Award

LearnPad’s popularity in UK schools hasn’t gone unnoticed by the wider education community and the solution has gained significant international success over the past 12 months with schools implementations in the Middle East through to North America. LearnPad’s are now in use in thousands of schools worldwide, with over 10,000 teachers actively using the classroom management portal and 500,000 students having access to LearnPad devices.

To add to this international success, LearnPad’s 7.85″ Octavo, has been announced as a winner in Tech & Learning’s ISTE 2014 Best of Show Awards, which took place from June 28-30 in Atlanta Georgia, USA. The Octavo is the latest tablet in the LearnPad family of devices to be offered in the United States.

Throughout the first day of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) annual conference, Tech & Learning advisors visited all the stands at the show, reviewing each vendor’s products and rating them against specific criteria including their impact on learning.

Jared Stearns of Tech & Learning said, “The choice was extremely challenging for our judges. We asked them to look at quality and effectiveness, ease of use, suitability for use in a school environment and creative use of technology. Each product was rated on a five-point scale in the aforementioned areas, along with an overall rating of poor, fair, good, very good and excellent. Every product received an overall rating of good, very good or excellent.”

Ken Leonard, chairman and CEO of LearnPad Group said, “We know from our rapid business growth that our tablet solution is ideal for successful classroom use, but it was especially heartening to win such an award from the Tech & Learning team. As they review and see so many learning technologies everyday, we respect their opinion and vision of learning technology excellence.”

Introduction to Tablets in Education at Penybont Primary School

LearnPad’s first Leader School, Penybont Primary in Bridgend, held LearnPad’s inaugural Introduction to Tablets in Education course on Thursday, June 26.

Penybont were chosen as LearnPad’s first Leader School for their commitment to best practice for using technology to teach and for transforming their classrooms by taking LearnPad into the core of their everyday planning. When asked how Penybont felt about being the first Leader School, Head Teacher Ben Blackall replied “We were really proud to be asked to be the first Leader School for LearnPad. We’ve integrated LearnPad fully into our school, from Foundation right up to KS2 we can see the massive benefits they have given both our teachers and pupils.”

“As part of being a Leader School, we are available to offer advice to schools who want to know more about how we’ve made LearnPad a great tool for teaching and engaging our children. We are happy to share this success with other schools and as a result, we are holding some Introduction to Tablets courses here, where we invite schools in for a day for LearnPad training and show them best practice and share our experiences. Teachers will come away with the knowledge they need to successfully enable them to implement tablet solutions in their schools and raise standards to the highest level”.

The course was well attended by headteachers, class leaders and ICT coordinators, and was designed to give an overview of how LearnPad’s simple tablet solution can raise attainment, engage learners and improve learning and teaching.

The attendees were given their own LearnPads and quickly discovered how easy it is to create lessons, find content, differentiate learning and manage the devices.

To round off the day, a tour of the school showed how Penybont uses LearnPad in their lessons and the attendees were inspired how the children and teachers at Penybont are using LearnPad and QrKeys in creative ways throughout the school. The attendees have taken their LearnPads back into their schools and are sharing their experiences of using LearnPad in the classroom.

New LearnPad Features Update

We would like to share with all of our customers some great new LearnPad features that we will be launching very shortly.

We’ve been working hard recently on some great new classroom tools that will help teachers better engage with students and make tablet based classwork simpler to distribute and manage. These new features, called LearnPad InClass® will be wrapped up in a free software update that we will make available to all of our customers over the next few weeks.

In anticipation of, and to support the new release, we have made a few changes to the LearnPadConnect™ portal which will go live on 13th November 2013. We thought we would let you all know about these now, just in case the changes cause a little confusion.

LearnPad content has always been arranged hierarchically into activitiescategories, and profiles. However, the world is a big place, and sometimes different words have a different meaning or connotation in different countries. So to make sure all of our global school customers have a common set of names that better describe the LearnPad interface, we have made a few changes. From tomorrow, ‘Profiles’ will become ‘Lessons’ and ‘Activities’ will become ‘Resources’, with ‘Categories’ remaining the same. So the hierarchical structure will be:

Lessons > Categories > Resources

None of your existing profiles or activities will be changed, they will just be referred to now as lessons and resources. Just to recap, a lesson is a collection of up to 6 categories, and a category is a collection of resources. Resources are apps, websites, documents, images, audio, video or any type of supported files.

Hopefully this won’t cause too much confusion, but if you do have any questions, please do contact support@learnpad.co and our technical team will be happy to assist.

We will let you know as soon as the new LearnPad InClass®  update is available and you will be able to push this update out to all of your devices from the LearnPadConnect™ portal with just a simple click!
