This year the award was presented in the ‘Digital Devices’ category for its Tectus wireless charging and storage unit. Coinciding with Bett, the world’s leading event for learning technology, the awards are considered the highest accolade in the industry.

The Bett Awards play a key role in identifying and rewarding excellence in education trade. The winning organisations were announced at the Bett Awards dinner in London on Wednesday 20 January. The judges summarised their view of the Tectus by saying:

“If you are looking to store a class set of tablets, this is the way to do it!”

They felt that the wireless tablet charging system is very distinctive, innovative and easy to use, and that it enables effective learning and teaching while demonstrating environmental sustainability. Caroline Wright, director general designate of BESA added: “The UK leads the world in terms of our technology based learning resources. Avantis has Charlie’s Golden Ticket!

Avantis Acquires The Golden Ticket!

Education supplier, Avantis, is the proud owner of an original Golden Ticket from the 1971 film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Following the recent news that the Golden Ticket was being auctioned in New York, Avantis battled it out and won the sought-after prop!

This comes following the news in the summer that Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is at the top of a teachers’ list of books that “all children should read before leaving primary school”. The list of must-read novels was selected by 500 teachers for the National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE) and the TES.

Avantis will be running with the Roald Dahl theme on stand C100 at Bett 2016, the world’s largest education technology show, in January. Not only will visitors have the opportunity to get a photo with the original Golden Ticket, they’ll also be in with a chance of winning a number of Avantis’ award-winning LearnPad tablets – if they find one of five replica Golden Tickets in the packets of Avantis-branded pencils that the team will be giving away on the stand!

Avantis has always strived to support schools to raise standards across the curriculum and saw the opportunity to secure the Golden Ticket as a great way to further enhance childrens’ interests in reading by giving schools the opportunity to see the sought-after Golden Ticket in real life. Avantis will be running competitions throughout 2016 which will enable schools to win a visit from the LearnPad team to see the Golden Ticket and receive some great free tablet devices as well, including the Folio 2 – 21.5” desktop tablet, which has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Digital Device’ category for the Bett Awards 2016.

Avantis Logo

Nik Tuson, Managing Director of Avantis, comments:

“We are extremely excited to have our hands on the original Golden Ticket from such a classic film and story. Avantis was founded in Cardiff, which is where Roald Dahl grew up, so it feels even more special to us.

At Avantis, we are dedicated to engaging children in reading and over the past 4 years have seen some great results from schools using our interactive tablets to do so. We can’t wait to run our Golden Ticket competition at Bett where teachers can not only see the original ticket but also find replicas hidden in our host of giveaways on the stand. We don’t want to let too much out of the bag, but the lucky winners will definitely be leaving with some great prizes and access to digital and hard copies of the book. What better way to get students reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?”

On-Demand Downloads
To help improve the network performance within school, now, when a teacher sends a Lesson to a group of LearnPads, large files such as apps won’t be immediately downloaded. Instead, they will be downloaded the first time a student tries to access them. READ MORE

Neighbour Downloads
When multiple devices all need to download the same apps or files, LearnPad will now use an intelligent sharing system. Once one device has finished downloading the file it will start to share it with other devices that haven’t yet completed their download. This saves unnecessary downloading through the school’s internet connection making for better internet speeds and performance across the school. READ MORE

Student Instructions
Add student instructions when creating Lessons. These appear on a sidebar within the Lesson and allow teachers to present more information to students, perhaps specific questions, goals or objectives. READ MORE

File Management
We’ve added a number of enhancements to the way users can interact with files through LearnPad. You can now copy and paste, rename, delete and send files using ClassCloud, our innovative solution for storing and managing classwork created by students. It’s also possible to create new documents, spreadsheets and slideshow presentations directly onto the school network folders, meaning they can be re-opened at a later date from another LearnPad or PC. READ MORE

Support for Schools Using DFS File Systems
Historically, LearnPad only supported accessing standard Windows file shares and student home folders. We’ve improved this functionality now to include those schools with larger or more advanced setups who employ DFS. This means that the vast majority of schools will be able to integrate LearnPads with their systems with minimal effort to set up. READ MORE
